Park HyeYoung, based in Seoul, works on translating the small, often overlooked moments of everyday life or easily forgotten sensations into painting. She is interested in the process of capturing what is invisible or has disappeared and leaving it on the canvas, using painting as a tool to restore memory and record sensory experience. Her practice does not merely reproduce objects; rather, it leaves space for viewers to perceive them in different ways through their own experiences and perspectives. By layering fragments of familiar landscapes or emotions on the surface, she explores how personal experiences can connect to social contexts. The things she wishes to restore inevitably carry a desire not to lose or forget them, and through the repeated process of stroking and attending to the canvas with a brush, this emotional impulse is also revived. The focus is not on reproduction, but on restoring the value that a scene or object holds for her. Resisting, in a quiet manner, the singular truth that nothing is eternal, she captures elements that tend to evaporate around us and transforms them into perceptible forms.
